Not Stacked — Overlapping
Most fantasy settings describe planes as floors in a building. The Codex rejects this. The 15 existential planes are not above or below each other — they overlap, like radio frequencies occupying the same space at different wavelengths.
Right now, wherever you are, all 15 planes exist in the same location. You are standing on the Material Plane. But the Dream Plane is also here — you just can't see it because your consciousness operates on the Material frequency. Change the frequency, and the world around you transforms without you moving an inch.
The 7 Classical Planes
These are the structural planes — the bones of the universe.
I. Material Plane
Standard physics. Gravity pulls down, time moves forward, death is permanent. The most fragile plane — it survives because no god considers it worth fighting over.
II. Dream Plane
Larger than Material because everyone dreams. Every dream is a temporary universe. Governed by Prima Somnium, who does not control what seven billion minds imagine when they close their eyes.
III. Chaos Plane
Nothing stays the same for more than a moment. Fire freezes. Sound becomes visible. Extended exposure causes identity dissolution. Primus Chaos is comfortable here. He is the only one.
IV. Light Plane
Everything illuminated from every angle. No shadows, no secrets. Every thought visible. Most beings find it unbearable — not because it hurts, but because they cannot hide from themselves.
V. Astral Plane
The connective tissue between all other planes. Not a place but a method of travel. You don't walk — you WANT yourself somewhere, and reality rearranges until you arrive.
VI. Shadow Plane
A dark mirror of Material. Every structure casts a shadow-version here — warped, empty, wrong. Where secrets are stored, where dead shadows go after their owners die.
VII. Inverse Plane
Everything runs backward. Rivers flow uphill. Creatures grow younger. The dead walk toward life. The rewind button of existence.
The 8 Energetic Planes
These are not places — they are states of being. You don't travel to the Fear Plane. You fall into it when fear consumes you. They are the emotional and spiritual substrate of the universe.
Thought Plane (Gand)
Every thought ever conceived exists here as a physical object. Ideas orbit each other like planets. The more complex a thought, the more gravitational pull it has.
Memory Plane (Amintire)
Everything remembered by any being in any plane is stored here. Memories grow like coral — layer upon layer. Walking through it is walking through time, sideways.
Curse Plane (Blestem)
Every curse spoken takes physical form. Broken promises become architecture. Betrayals become weather. Not evil — the consequence plane, where every wrong word slowly returns to its source.
Longing Plane (Dor)
Dor is a Romanian concept with no English equivalent: yearning + nostalgia + love-pain + the ache for something that may never have existed. This plane IS that feeling, made into a world. Beautiful, heartbreaking, infinite. Beings who enter often choose not to leave.
Aspiration Plane (Nazuinta)
Every unfulfilled dream, every abandoned goal, every path not taken exists here in permanent possibility. Not sad — hopeful. Nothing is truly lost here. It is merely waiting.
Fear Plane (Frica)
Not a horror realm. Fear here is functional — a survival mechanism elevated to cosmic law. The creatures here do not attack. They show you what you refuse to see about yourself.
Dream Energy Plane (Vis Energetic)
Not the Dream Plane where individual dreams play out — the raw energy from which dreams are made. Pure potential. Elementals born here are made of pure imagination, formless until a dreamer gives them shape.
Sacrifice Plane (Sacrificiu)
The ledger of the universe. Every sacrifice — willing or forced, large or small — is recorded here. The most mathematically precise place in existence. Prima Sacrificium's domain.
Thin Points
Where planes overlap, thin points occur — locations where the boundary between two planes is so weak that they bleed into each other. A forest clearing where dreams become visible. A mountain peak where the Astral touches the Material. A cave where shadow and light coexist.
The most powerful creatures in the Codex live at thin points. The most dangerous anomalies occur there. And the most important events in the timeline happened when a thin point tore open wide enough for gods to step through.
